Alberto joined the firm in 1977. His career has focused on the attraction of foreign investment, advising important multinational companies as they establish operations in the country. In the nineties he advised the worlds main shipping company as they established a presence in the country by acquiring their local representative. He was also charged with designing and structuring a complex trust to acquire the countries biggest teak harvester.
He has been recognized as a forerunner in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in Costa Rica, and led the creation of the Costa Rican Chamber of Commerce’s Center for Arbitration and Conciliation, where he continues to serve as an Executive Committee Member.
He is an arbitrator and conciliator for the Costa Rican Chamber of Commerce’s Center for Arbitration and Conciliation, for the Costa Rican Lawyers Association’s Center for Alternative Justice, and for the Engineer’s and Architect’s Professional Association’s Center for Conflict Resolution, representative of Costa Rica to the Inter-American Arbitration Commercial Commission (IACAC) and part of the list of arbitration of such institution; arbitrator before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID); member of the expert arbitrators list of the “Centro Iberoamericano de Arbitraje” (CIAR) and Vice-President for America of the European Lawyers Association.
